  2. Was your JDE paper handled by the same editor? I wonder why the author(s) did not tone down their paper to avoid direct confrontation to yours.

    • No. Not by the same editor. Maybe the author thought we were really wrong. Or maybe he believes that his paper can still be published with the help from the editor even if he pissed off the referee. AH showed me the response letter from the author. That is the most lousy response I have ever seen. For instance, in response to AH’s critique, it was said “I have improved this.” without any detailed explanation how and where…

      • My take is that it’s not the author(s). They would have toned it down if such was demanded by the editor. The edtior could have easily done that but likely chose not to and that was probably conveyed in the decision letter. It also explains the editor’s response to AH’s desire of a rebuttal.

  3. I totally agree that it is the editor that decided to ignore AH’s complain. We believe that the editor even did not forward AH’s second report to the author because AH did not receive a response to his second report at all.

  4. I would imagine that many had similar experiences. One time I reviewed a paper by an AE of that journal. Maybe I asked too many changes or my tone was not positive enough, the Editor did not seem to be happy with me.
